Enjoying the fuck out of it!! I'm pulling for Brazil and Spain. My current feeling is Brazil will take it all this time... but watch out for those fucking Germans. Brazil/Argentina would be a crazy good final.
Gotta say that the early exits by England, France et al. put a smile on my face. That and watching the Chilean coach have a heart attack during elimination.
It only gets better from here. _________________ sound |

Oh yeah, and being at a packed bar at 9am watching Donovan score that extra-time goal and getting showered with beer before work while the whole place went nuts... that was sweet. Hopefully this is the start of something great for US soccer. _________________ sound |

i hear you bro shark...
tomorrow should be great, netherlands vs brazil and then ghana vs uruguay. the dutch have the ability to win but do they have the heart and the desire?
i really want to ghana to beat uruguay to keep an african team in the tournament and it makes the usa look better.
i know i'm biased but the best match for me so far was usa vs algeria. also thought all the usa games were exciting.
argentina vs germany should be a classic. i hope messi runs riot and scores a hat trick.
spain should bounce paraguay who will look to defend, hack and fall over a lot.
its been great and the finish should be as well. |

I'm with you on Ghana and Argentina. We need someone else to chime in with the opposing view! _________________ sound |

I would love to see the Netherlands in the final but I feel this "italianized" Brasil a very difficult team to beat, great defense and killer counter-attack. Something like Inter Milan in this years Champions League.
As a spaniard, I think we have a nice chance to reach the final for the first time in our history but if we can't I'll root for Germany, I enjoy a lot the way they are playing.
Added to that, I have to give some credit to the US soccer team, they were a nice team to watch, in my opinion they deserved to be in que 1/4 more than Ghana and other teams like Paraguay or Uruguay that uso to play crappy defensive "catenaccio" football.
Lets see what happens now... |

well i'm kinda glad brazil got kicked out... i got sick of their "we're the best at soccer attitude" a while back. and of course i'm also glad the US is out too... i do admit they've been getting better and better and they deserve some recognition for that, but i just don't like it when they win at anything, i specially "hate" donovan 'cos he always scores against mexico... jejjeje....
you should've seen the reaction of the people at the bar i was when ghana scored their second goal against the us... it was an instant burst of cheering and shouting and everybody went nuts and was happy. don't mean to insult or bash americans, but it was nice to see that...
i would've liked ghana to beat uruguay... in fact i would've liked ghana to win the world cup.
argentina vs. germany sounds like a final to me...
other than that it would be nice if netherlands win... they deserve it...

Nice post Judo, welcome to the forums and please stick around.
Every game except Argentina's exit has been worth watching.. tons of drama. Can't believe Brazil are out. That's gotta be the end of the Dunga experiment. Expect flash and pizazz in 2014.
Germany/Holland final at this point? The Germans look nearly unstoppable.
Loving it and can't wait for more. _________________ sound |

so i'm sad its over...
thought it was a much better cup than 2002. more excitement for me. in the end i feel spain definitely deserved to win. it was amazing to see them reduce germany to playing scared defensive football and the dutch to outright thuggery. de jung gets a straight red for that boot to the chest under just about any other situation than the final.
my main regret was ghana not being able to get past uruguay. i think luis suarez is a cheating bastard and i loved hearing him get booed in the 3rd place game. still, ghana couldn't convertvthe penalty. if i'm the ref, i call it a goal, there is no goalline technology afterall, and i send suarez off for handball on the goalline as well, and ghana advances.
it would have been really interesting to see ghana v holland in the semi final.
i was rooting for usa, england and mexico in that order but they all went out in the same round. i was rooting against germany and uruguay. i always root for brazil a little, what can i say, got to see them twice live in 94, and it was pele who i looked up to as a kid. didn't get to see a lot of soccer back then here in the usa so it is mind blowing to see how much the sport has grown and to see how much coverage the cup got this time on espn and in the mainstream press here.
overall though, spain's smooth possession style won out, and i felt they did it while still playing solid defense and without having to resort to a lot of diving, although that red that chile got against them was weak.
barcelona are one of my favorite club teams and spain played like barca.
thought the goal of the tournament was muntari's for ghana vs uruguay. a runner up would be vanbrokenhurst? for holland vs uruguay. most exciting game for me was usa vs slovenia but i'm real biased. thought spain vs paraguay was also quite drama filled.
biggest flame out was obviously france with italy right behind. crazy both finalists from last time fail to get out of the group stage.
incredible that spain won all those games 1-0 but none of them were boring although it was sad that the final wasn't better. the dutch were complaining to the ref at the end but they should have played most of the match a man down, thought the ref was very lenient with them.
robben had a ton of chances but couldn't convert. spain too looked tense to score until inesta finally got through. cool to see the euro champs win the world cup. france did the reverse in 98 and 2000.
i seriously hope to go to brazil in 2014. who is with me? |

I'm sad it is over too. I was thinking alot about it now that the English leagure has started up again. But I think that is why I like it so much. It is quick, nationalistic, and exciting. Hopefully the vuvuzelas don't make their way to Brazil...
Brazil in 2014 would rule. However, it will be tough to convince BroShark to go....even though he used to live there AND speaks the language!! |
